NORTHCOTE UNEMPLOYED
WORK FOR EX-SOLDIERS To aid unemployed returned soldiers in Xorthcote, the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association donated the sum of £25 from the Poppy Day funds to the Northcote Borough Council. Advice has now been received that this amount has been subsidised by 'the Government £1 for £l, and with the council’s £1 for £l, the sum of £75 will be available. The immediate reconstruction of Valley Road is to be proceeded with under the supervision of the borough overseer, Mr. E. Mays, and work will be provided for all returned soldier residents. For the relief of general unemployment the sum of £ls has been forwarded to the council as the result of the recent concert held in the borough.
