DOGS FOR MOUNT COOK
BYRD EXPEDITION HUSKIES STRICT TERMS ARRANGED Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Today. The Government has decided to allow the dogs of the Byrd Antarctic Expedition to be taken to the Mount Cook region, subject to the execution by Mr. A. Innes-Tavlor, who is charge of the animals, and two approved sureties of a bond for <£so<>. to adhere to certain conditions, which may be summarised as follows: — (1) The dogs shall be kept 'under secure control, and no dog shall be allowed at liberty. (2> The dogs to be subject to supervision and inspection of Stock Inspector Fairlie. (3* No dog of any age shall be sold or given away to any person in the Dominion. (.4) No animal shall be allowed to have contact with any domiciled in New Zealand. (5) circumstances prevent the shipment of the dogs to the Antarctic, they shall be reshipped to North America or elsewhere. (6) No transfer of dog* from the Hermitage or adjacent region shall be made without the prior approval of the Minister of Agriculture. The dogs went” South this morningleaving Lyttelton about 9 a.m., after being brought over from Quail Island Two lorries belonging to the Mount Cook Motor Company will make the trip to the Hermitage in one dayreaching there this evening.
