DANGER TO SCHOOLS
PLANS FOR REDUCTION Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. The Minister of Education has urged on the Education Board the danger of heavy parapets and ornamentation in school buildings, especially over exits. The board was asked to treat it as urgent and to forward a close estimate of the cost of removal, when the Minister will be prepared to deal expeditiously with the proposal. Members of the executive of the West Coasters’ Association met today, when the secretary, Mr. A. Cox, reported that all arrangements in connection ' with the benefit social to be held tonight in St. Benedict’s Hall were now complete. The response was most liberal and everything pointed to the function proving an unqualified success, and it was anticipated that a goodly sum would be available for the earthquake fund. The president, Mr. F. W. Schramm, said the association greatly appreciated the handsome manner in which the Auckland public had supported the appeal generally. A cheque for £276 has been forwarded to the Central Earthquake Relief Fund, representing the total collected to date by the “Mataura Ensign,” Gore.
