BOWLING COUNCIL MEETS
SIXTEENTH ANNUAL MEETING Press Association DUNEDIN, Today. The sixteenth annual meeting of the Dominion Bowling Council opened this morning, the past president, Mr. S. Stone, introducing the new president. Mr. C. J. Payne. The annual report showed the number of member clubs on register was 314 and membership 16,080. This is an increase of 42 on the previous year's total and the increase for the past four years is 992. Members of tho council resident in Dunedin were appointed to the executive. The membership levy was fixed at sixpence a member, and it was decided to recommend the tightening up of permits to centres which intend holding tournaments about the same time as the Dominion tournament. It was decided that the Dominion tournament will be started on a Monday, and that the order of play be singles first, pairs second and rinks last. The tournament will now start on January 13. Singles will be played on the automatic two-life principle and pairs and rinks on the sectional system. The council decided that the next series of matches with Australia will take place at the Australian bowling carnival following one fixed to taker place in Tasmania. Also that the number of rinks to participate shall be decided by the visiting country, but that such number be not less than four or more than six and that the next matches in Hew Zealand be played in Dunedin before the Dominion tournament in 1934. The question of adopting a uniform scoring board was left to the-executive. An invitation was received to attend the centennial carnival of the Western Australian Association, and it was decided to notify all centres accordingly. The Auckland remit to establish a benevolent fund for the relief of bowlers’ widows and ophans and aged bowlers was lost. It was also decided to notify the Australian Council that New Zealand considered each country should have equal representation on the International Board.
