Messrs. Faulkner Bros., owners of the Tauranga harbour ferry service, have just added to their fleet the twinscrew steamer Hauiti. It was' bought from the Gisborne Farmers’ Freezing Company and arrived on Saturday. The vessel will be fitted up with deep sea fishing appliances and will be available for fishing parties, and at excursion times will be used as a ferry boat to the Mount. There has been a keen competition for the largest maize cob. Mr. A. Wood, of Tauranga, and Mr. G. Hatch, of Katikati, held the honours until last Saturday, when Mr. C. A. Oliver produced four cobs containing 906, 1.002, 1,064 and 1,273 grains respectively.
