Cronin and Mrs. lan McGregor, of Hamilton, are the guests of Mrs. Strachan in Otorohanga. BIRTHDAY DANCE PARTY On Wednesday evening Mr. arid Mrs. A. C. Penny gave a very jolly party in the Masonic Hall, Claudelands, to celebrate the 21st birthday of their daughter Ella. Mrs. Penny received her guests in a gown of beaded georgette. Miss Ella Penny was in a dainty frock of powder blue and silver. Mrs. J. Smith, who helped Mrs. Penny and her daughter to entertain their guests, was in a frock of black georgete worn with an oriental shawl. The time passed very gaily with song and dancing. Those who sang were Mrs. Fred Booth, Miss O. Kirby, Mr. Harold Piper and Mr. Jones. Excellent dance music was played by Miss Emmette, Mr. Piper and Mr. Ebbet. The guests present were:

SURPRISE PARTY FAREWELL TO HOLIDAY-MAKERS An enjoyable evening was spent on Saturday by a number of young people who arranged a surprise party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. Hardley, in Curran Street, Herne Bay. During the evening best wishes were extended to Miss May Hardley and Miss Eileen Nicholls, who are shortly leaving for a holiday, in Australia. Among those present were: Miss M. Hardley, in sunset embossed georgette, with diamente relief. Miss E. Nicholls, maise crepe de chine, french embroidered. Miss B. Hathaway, ivory satin and gold tissue. Miss F. Saunders, turquoise blue and blush pink taffeta. Miss J. Hardley, lacquer red georgette and gold relief. Miss D. O'Rourke, mimosa taffeta with frilled skirt. Miss M. Williams, shell pink georgette with rosebud trimming. Miss J. Nicholls, ivory crepe de chine, gold lace and red shoulder spray. Miss R. Hardley, pompadour pink chiffon velvet and silver. Miss Floss Saunders, lama crepe de chine and shot tissue. Miss N. Williams, pastel green satin with shoulder spray. Miss M. Jackson, leaf green taffeta and gold lace. Miss H. Hardley, delphinium blue taffeta with rose contrast. Miss E. Watkins, powder blue and lace. AFTERNOON TEA PLEASANT CITY FUNCTION Mrs. R. Noton, of Hackett Road, Ponsonby. gave a tea for her daughter, who is to be married shortly, in the J.C.L. Tearooms yesterday afternoon. Many of the guests were relatives and intimate firends, and a happy time was spent. Mrs. Noton was dressed in black, with a seal coat and a black hat, and Miss Noton wore a navy blue suit, with hat to match and furs. Among those present were:—Mrs. J. TV.
