FIDO WAS EMBALMED

MUMMIFIED SPANIEL IN COFFIN NOT CLAIMED BY OWNER Press Association PALMERSTON N., Today. An amazing discovery was recently made on the premises of a Palmerston North firm. When a case was opened which had been securely locked for five years, it was found to contain an elaborate oak coffin of small dimensions with ornamental facings. The police were summoned and on removing the lid they found an her-metically-sealed case, and within this they found the mummified body of a little black spaniel which had been carefully embalmed, apparently as a sentimental idiosyncrasy of the owner. The case was entrusted to the care of the firm five years ago by a client, who said he would claim it two days later. He has not yet returned.
