THE MAYOR’S FUND PEOPLE GIVING FREELY A cheque for £SOO from the Auckland Harbour Board was among the contributions received this mornintg by the Mayor of Auckland for his ! earthquake relief fund. Several other large contributions were forwarded by churches, business firms, and their staffs. The total is now well over £B,OOO.
COLLECTIONS AT THEATRES BENEFIT PROGRAMMES In spite of wet weather, entertainments held last evening in several Auckland theatres in aid of the funds for earthquake relief were responsible for the collection of satisfactory sums. A well selected programme at the Regent Theatre drew a large audience, and about £6O was added to the funds. The Mayor of Newmarket’s fund will receive an addition of £ll 4s 6d from an orchestral concert staged in the Rialto Theatre, Newiriarket. At a vocal and instrumental concert at the Picturedrome, Milford, £5 6s was collected. There were programmes at several other theatres in the city and the suburbs, including the Regent Theatre at Epsom. NEWMARKET MAYOR’S FUND The Mayor of Newmarket's Earthquake Relief Fund now totals £264 10s Sd. Bolton, H. Wilson, A. Holmes, H. A. Gordon, K. and K. Grocers, £2; members Parnell Rugby Football League, Banks Brothers, Walter Clegg, £1 Is; Miss Fox, £1; P. Jensen, P. Pohlem, F. 8., ss; Mrs. L., 2s 6d. Total to date, £264 10s Bd. SALVATION ARMY’S HELP The collection taken in the Salvation Army Congress Hall in aid of the Earthquake Relief Fund by Commissioner Hay and other officers totalled £l2. HONGI CLUB’S SUCCESS The 15 members of the Auckland University Hongi Club, who appeared in weird and wonderful costumes of their own devising at Eden Park on Saturday to take up a collection for the Earthquake Relief Fund, collected £67, which will be paid into the Mayor’s fund. COLLECTION AT CARLAW PARK During the League games at Carlaw Park on Saturday afternoon a collection was taken up and £27 18s 10£d was collected. This sum will be paid into the Mayor’s Earthquake Relief Fund. The Pahia tua County Council donated £ 100 to the Earthquake Relief Fund. W AIM ATE, Today. A sum of £125 has been sent forward as a preliminary donation to the Earthquake Relief Fund from a fund inaugurated by the Mayor of Wairnate.
