EMDEN AT WELLINGTON
FORMAL CALLS MADE FINE WEATHER PROMISES Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. The cruiser Emden arrived in Wellington at eight o’clock this morning, being given a 21-gun salute from Point Jerningham. She berthed at Clyde Quay. Mr. W. Penseler, German Consul in Xew Zealand, went aboard, as did also lieutenant-Commander C. J. M. Lyons, ot the Naval Department. About 200 people waited near the wharf to witness the arrival.
During the morning a series of formal calls was made by the commander, Captain von Arnauld, to the Governor-General, the Harbour Board, 'be Mayor and the Navy Department. These are being returned later in the bay. Captain von Arnauld was accompanied by Mr. Penseler. The weather is fine, assuring a good lime for the men who come ashore. Captain von Arnauld and Mr. Penseler called on the Prime Minister at Urliament House at 10.30. Sir Joseph Ward and several Ministers of •he Crown returned the call an hour later.
