CONCERT AT ONEHUNGA
The- fund which is being raised to erect an Arch of Remembrance in Jellicoe Park, Onehunga, was considerably augmented last evening when a highly-suecessful concert was held in the Foresters’ Theatre. The Mayor, Air. E. Morton, announced that the estimated cost of the memorial was £435, and that £176 had been raised by public subscription. The Prime Minister had notified that the Government would subsidise all subscriptions on a £ for £ basis, and the Borough Council had taken over the work and would assist the committee to complete it. A splendid programme of vocal, instrumental and other items was arranged by Mr. E. V. Sutherland and was thoroughly enjoyed by a larg*audience. The concerted numbers by the pupils of the Convent and publi* schools were excellently rendered. Songs were sung by Miss Alma MV Gruer, Alessrs. Duncan Black. J as. Simpson, J. Halford, Eric Mannall and the New Zealand Quartet. Air. Dan Flood supplied the humour. .Miss Jessamine Kirkwood a graceful I dance and Mr. Cyril Hardy gave a ! novel exhibition of hand shadowi graphs and “papergraphy.” : The Onehunga Citizens’ Band was jin attendance and Air.
