PERMANENT BONUS WANTED
DEPUTATION TO WELLINGTON A very representative attendance was present at the annual meeting of the Superannuated Public Servants’ Association held in the Railway Social Hall yesterday afternoon, when the president, Mr. M. Guthrie, was in the chair. The annual report dealt with the association’s endeavour to have the cost-of-living bonus made permanent, instead of being a special vote by Parliament each year. The yearly conference will be attended at Wellington this month by Mr. Guthrie, who will also form one of a deputation to the Prime Minister. The meeting passed a vote of condolence with Mrs. W. H. Lorking, on the death of Mr. Lorking, on Wednesday. For some years Mr. Lorking had been the association’s local secretary. The chairman hoped that more of the recently retired public servants would take an interest in the association. At present the Railway Department was responsible for more members than all the rest of the Government departments put together. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: President, Mr. M. Guthrie; vice-presidents, Mr. J. M. Drummond and Mrs. M. J. Jenkinson; hon. secretary, Mr. W\ McNickle; assistant secretary, Mr. J. Duggan; auditor, Mr. C. Bishoprick; committee. Misses M. Carnie and J. McKay and Messrs. W. Williams, A. Wishart, G. Hardcastle, B. Green and W. Burtenshaw. The committee, as well as the members of the association, will meet in the Railway Social Hall on the first Thursday of each month.
