BREED’S GREAT RECORD
Satisfaction that the Friesian breed Still maintained its lead over all others was expressed by Mr. H. J. Marchant, president, at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Friesian Association held yesterday. The annual report stated that the bull and cow championships at the New Zealand Royal Agricultural Society’s show had been won by the breed. In addition, five out of seven production records had been established by Friesians. The calf club movement in Taranaki and elsewhere was extending rapidly and fine work was being done in educating boys and girls in feeding, raising and exhibition of young dairy ■stock. Many hundreds of calves were being entered in these exhibitions each year. The balance sheet showed a loss of f£S7O, but there was a sum of £252 which had to be deducted from this total.
In moving the adoption of the report find balance sheet, Mr. Marchant said that seven Friesian cows had produced more than SOOlb of fat under semiofficial test in 1928. The breed had ia.lso proved its superiority in the average butter-fat production for 1925. After the report had been adopted, there was discussion concerning a draft rule for the purpose of preventing the s-ale of undesirable Friesians to beginners in the breed. It was decided finally to recommend to the council That any breeders holding a pedigree sale may, upon application, have an •inspection made by a committee, and sin animal not passed should have its Transfer refused.
