NEW REGENT

“CLOSE HARMONY” TOMORROW

The current programme at the New Regent Theatre will be screened for the last time this evening. This includes

“Shew People," a story written round Hollywood movie life, with Marion Davies and William Haines in the leading roles, and ‘Masks of the Devil,” a tale of Viennese society starring John Gilbert. There are also a number of short talkie features.

Nancy Carroll and Charles “Buddy" Rogers are heard singing in Paramount’s latest all-talking and singing comedy-romance. “Close Harmony,” coming to the New Regent, tomorrow. In addition to singing a tuneful song hit, “I’m All-A-Twitter," Rogers, as the leader of a jazz band, also plays five instruments himself. His versatile performance is aided and abetted by Nancy Carroll who sings, “I Wanna Go Places and Do Things," a tuneful number that promises to be a prime favourite during the coming season. fThose who have heard Miss Carroll sing, know she has one of the most pleasing voices yet to be heard from the screen.

Supporting Miss Caroll and Rogers, who incidentally, carry on a most delightful romance, are two excellent comedians, Jack Oakie and Skeets Gallagher, who au the Harmony Boys, vaudeville headliners, sing and carry on a line of humour and fun that should win the favour of audiences everywhere. Another player in the

cast, while not well known to the general movie public, has been associated with the stage for many years and contributes a performance that should prove to be highly amusing. He is Harry Green, cast as the manager of a vaudeville theatre where Rogers and Miss Carroll are on the bill. As the manager, overcome by the foibles 6f temperamental stars, he is really excellent. “Close Harmony" was directed by Edward Sutherland and John Cromwell from a story by Elsie Jan is and Gene Mar key. The dialogue was written by John V. A. Weaver, the American poet. A number of enjoyable short talkie features will also be presented, and now musical selections played on the big Wurlitzer by Mr. Arthur G. Frost.
