SMALL STEAMER ASHORE

DAMAGE ON WAIROA BAR Press Association WAIROA, Today. While negotiating the Wairoa Bar yesterday afternoon the Richardson Company’s steamer Tangaroa was struck by a heavy sea and went ashore. She was safely refloated at midnight but is considerably damaged. Temporary repairs were effected to enable the vessel to reach the wharf, where pumping operations were continued all night. The cargo is considerably damaged by water. The vessel had her stern decking torn and there are three holds in the hull near the main hold.
