CONFIDENCE IN BALDWIN
CONSERVATIVES AFFIRM FAITH IN LEADER “WE WILL WIN AGAIN” (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) LONDON, Wednesday. The Conservative Leader, Mr. Stanley Baldwin, answered criticism of the party organisation at a meeting in London of the Central Council of the Conservatives, at which a unanimous vote of confidence in him as leader was passed. Mr. Baldwin said they had been through many hard fights together, and had won and lost and would win again. It was always natural in the moment of defeat, whether great or small, that there should be a certain amount of heart-searching and criticism. Personally, he had no objection to criticism.
Looking back on a fairly long Parliamentary life, he said there had never been a better, more loyal, harder working or more united party than theirs in the last House. Unfortunately many most promising members were defeated, but shortly, and certainly within a few months, every constituency would be selecting a candidate for the next battle. It was necessary to have a large recruitment of young men, because the future was with them.
