EASY VICTORY OVER NEWCASTLE A 27-POINT MARGIN (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) NEWCASTLE, Wednesday. In the match between the All Blacks and Newcastle the visitors won by j 35 points to 8. The game was played on the Sportsground, in the presence of | 4,000 spectators. The teams were as follow: New Zealand. —Fullback, Stringfellow; threequarters, Waterman, Carleton, Geddes; five-eighths, Oliver, Cundy; halfback, Dailey (captain); forwards, Hook, Snow, McWilliams, j Mahoney, Steere, Reside, Palmer, Souter. Newcastle.—Fullback, Burke; threequarters, Hamill, Doyle, Breen (cap- j tain), Middleton; halves, Neville,! Rutherford; forwards, Howell, Ward,! Pooley, Jones, Swan, McKenzie, San-1 derson, Greaves.
Nepia did not play owing to an injury to his back. The All Blacks started off in a manner that suggested that they would prove to be superior in every department of the game. Fine pack work and brilliant passing, in which Geddes shone, were features of the various stages of the match. The New Zealanders were not long in scoring, and established a good lead before Newcastle through Hammill scored a try which was converted The Ail Blacks continued to show fine play. Their forward line was exceptionally good. Newcastle scored a try again in the first half, which ended: New Zealand, II points; Newcastle, 8. DALLEY INJURED After the interval the All Blacks carried the game before them, and with the exception of individual efforts by one or two men on the Newcastle side the local team was outclassed. Geddes, Waterman, Cundy, Oliver and Stringfellow were a tower of strength to the All Black side.
In the second half the Newcastle team tired. Dailey, the New Zealand captain, went off the field early in the second half with an injured shoulder. NAVAL TEAMS’ GAME
Teams from the New Zealand and Australian naval squadi-ons met in a game of Rugby football today. The New Zealanders won by 34 points to 11. McNeill and Murray scored tries for the winners.
PORTER OUT OF ACTION
WILL NOT LEAD N.Z. TEAM ON SATURDAY TEST AGAINST AUSTRALIA Reed. 9 a.m. SYDNEY, Today. * Porter will not lead the All Blacks against Australia in the first test next Saturday, and there is a possibility that he will not play at all during the tour. Over the week-end, Porter’s septic arm was swollen to unusual proportions. Fortunately, he has now thrown off the ill-effects, and is ouc of danger. Dailey suffered an injured shoulder yesterday, but he was examined last night and his injury was not found to be serious. It is hoped he will be able to play in the first test. Hot fomentations have been applied and massages ill be resorted to when he returns to Sydney.
