final functions this Y afternoon luncheon and reception following the reception given by Captain von Arnauld on the Emden afternoon, the vessel -will make eady for sea, leaving for Wellington (t six o’clock this evening. Invitations were extended to about 500 people, and yesetrday a portion c f the crew was kept busily employed preparing for the event. A special luncheon was held on the vessel today. attended by the Mayor, Mr. G. Uaildon, Mr. M. H. Wynyard, chairn 0 f the Harbour Board, and other prominent citizens. * Captain von Arnauld stated yesterday that he, as well as his officers "A crew, had received a vast num!*r of letters expressing goodwill. Although there was a secretarial staff oa board the letters were too numerous to handle. He could only express his thanks for the friendly feeling shown to his crew and himself, and state his appreciation once more of t h e wonderful reception received at the hands of Aucklanders. Men from the British merchant ships in port and from the Emden ■were the guests of the League of \ations and the Emden reception committee at the Flying Angel Mission to Seamen last evening. The programme, arranged by Mrs. Nello Porter, included items by Mr. S. Pritchard, Mr. E. Snell, Miss Perry, Miss Kennedy, Tamaki Maori girls and a party from the Y.W.C.A. A chorus was also sung by the Emden party.
Appreciation of the hospitality extended to them during their visit by the mission and the chaplain, the Rev. H. K. Vickery, was expressed by the Emden visitors. Dancing followed the entertainment programme.
