August S to August 16. This information has been received fiom Commander Abrial by M. Paul Serre, French Consul at Auckland. Built at Lorient in 1925 and placed in service in 1925, the Tourville is a Washington Treaty cruiser of 10,000 tons. Her trials were completed in March of last year and she is regarded as France’s crack warship, besides being one of the most efficient vessels of her type In the world. She is of the Lamotte-Picquet type and a sister ship to the Duquesne. HIGH SPEED CRUISER Equipped with four main Ratrau geared turbines driving four screws, and two cruising engines of the same type, the Tourville can attain a speed of 36.07 knots, behind which is 138,000 h.p. She is rated as the fastest Washington type cruiser in commission. The warship’s armament consists of eight eight-inch guns in four turrets, and with a range of 32,000 yards; eight 2.3 (75 m.m.) anti-aircraft guns; eight 3-pounder automatics; two 6-pounder guns for the boats, and 12 machine guns. In addition there are two sets of torpedo tubes, each of three tubes and nine torpedoes, with a range of 10 miles. TWO SEAPLANES The warship carries two seaplanes powered with 450 h.p. and 180 h.p. engines respectively. There are 31 officers, 41 petty officers, 81 mates and 565 ratings. A. de Lestrange (navigating officer), R. M. F. Villebrun (torpedo officer), M. G. H. Ruyneau de St. George (gunner officer), R. E. H. M. Fatou (signal officer), E. Hainguerlot (land party commanding officer), J. G. M. Bellando (aviation officer). Ensigns (first class): P. M. Vialet, L. M. J. A. Querangal des Essarts, F. A. G. M. Le Roux, G. H. Huber and M. P. Ferte.

Ensigns (second class): P. G. E. de Parseval, R. M. J. Guillemin and J. M. R. de Buretel de Chassey. Chief engineer: F. J. Le Pelch. Engineer (first class): F. R. Clement and If. F. Mitre.
