EXPORT OF FRUIT

PROBLEMS OF STORAGE INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH WORK Press Association A suggestion that a Fruit Research Committee should be set up to investigate the problems of cool storage for fruit, and temperatures at which fruit should be held while in transport was made by the Hon. H. Atmore. Minister in Charge of Scientific and Industrial Research. After dealing with many problems involved, Air. Atmore spoke of the experiments carried out at the Cavthron Institute, which showed the possibilities ahead, and suggested that a levy of a farthing a case might be made to provide the necessary funds. On 1,000,000 cases this would produce about £I,OOO, and, if subsidised by the Government, would make £2,000 available.

He urged growers to give their consideration to a comprehensive scheme by which the fruit industry, at the present state of its development, might derive the fullest possible assistance that scientific knowledge and resource could give.
