OTAHUHU ORPHANS’ CLUB
Vice-president Bro. J. W. Sanderson presided over a large attendance of members and visitors at the fortnightly meeting of the Otahuhu Orphans’ Club on Tuesday evening. The official guests were Bro. W. G. Hutchinson, president, Bro. J. Crawford, secretary, and the executive of the Auckland Orphans’ Club. Other visitors included Bro. T. Day and members of the Otahuhu Returned Soldiers’ Social Club, Mr. F. M. Waters, chairman of the Manukau County Council, Mr. T. R. Smytheman, chairman of the Papatoetoe Town Board, and Mr. G. Hosking. Feeling reference was made by the chairman to the recent death of Bro .J. W. Whyte, an old and esteemed member of the club. Members stood in silence as a token of respect for the late member. An enjoyable programme of musical items was provided by the members of the club as follows: —Overture by the club orchestra, under the baton of Bro. Edwin Parker: vocal item by the club’s male choir, under the leadership of Bro. Blythe: vocal solo, Bro. Claude Suisted; elocutionary item. Bro. Howard Andrew: instrumental selection by the Otahuhu Harmony Five; some simple tricks, Bro. Liddell; violin solo. Bro. Keefe. The chairman for the next evening will be vice-president Bro. W. H. Payne, and the official guests will bo the executive of the Devonport and Takapuna Orphans’ Clubs.
AUCTION NOTES
Messrs. Robert C. Carr and Son will sell by auction at 20 Swanson Street, tomorrow, at noon, a well-built fourroomed house, with bathroom and scullery and a large back verandah, detached washhouse and usual conveniences, situated in Pentland Avenue, off Valley Road. Mount Eden. The sale is under conduct of the registrar of the Supreme Court and at the request of the mortgagee.
