aero club pupils put THROUGH TESTS SIX CANDIDATES FLY The Auckland Aero Club’s first (,afch of pupils to try for pilots' licences was put through practical tes ts at the Mangere Airdrome yesterday afternoon under the direction of Major T. M. Wilkes, Director of Air Services, and Major L. M. Isitt, officer in charge of the Hobsonville air base. Six pupils, Messrs. F. A. Andrews, L. Anderson, L. Crosbie, J. Gardener, T. philcox and Hodson took the air. All gave fine displays of flying and in some of the manoeuvres exhibited exceptional skill. To qualify for their pilots’ licences, however, they have yet to pass the theoretical examination on rules of the air and the general principles of flight. JVr the practical test yesterday afternoon it was stipulated for the pupils to ascend to a height of 6,000 feet and land within the limits of a circle without making use of the engine while landing. It was also retired of the candidates to make five lignre-eight turns.
