PRESERVING A RELIC

FIGUREHEAD OF WARSHIP The council of the Auckland Institute and Museum on Tuesday decided to keep the figurehead of H.M.S. Wolverene, which had been asked for by Commander Clover, R.N., for tli© grounds of the naval depot at Devonport. The president, Mr. H. E. Valle, said that the figurehead was about seventy years old and in need of repair. If set up in the open air it would probably not last many years longer, even if kept painted. He felt that tho museum should receive it on behalf of the public. It was decided to reply in these terms. It was decided to obtain prices for a number of large ornamental reinforced concrete vases or tubs, designed by the museum architects, to be placed in the open courts of the building as containers for tree-ferns and other decorative plants.
