WATERFRONT RESCUE
GIRL NEARLY DROWNED STOREMAN’S PROMPT ACTION While preparing to go home from work last evening Mr. L. Simmonds, a storeman, employed by Wilsons Portland Cement Company at its waterfront store in Freeman’s Bay, at the foot of Customs Street East, heard cries coming from the water a few feet from the edge of the company’s wharf. . He ran out on the wharf and discovered a girl struggling In the water. He had jnst been preparing for a wash before going home and had nothing on by a pair of trousers and boots. He immediately dashed down on to the rocks on the water side of the store and called out to two men in a dinghy, who were rowing some distance out. They came to land in answer to his cries and jumping into the boat he guided it round to where the girl was still struggling. With some difficulty she was taken out of the water, but fainted before reaching land. The St. John Ambulance was called and she was taken to hospital. Dater her name was discovered to be Jela Klinac. This morning it was reported that her condition was not dangerous.
