STOLE SPARE TYRE

THEFT FROM CAR It was only the work of a few seconds to unscrew the spare tyre of a car parked on the side of a road at Henderson yesterday but it resulted in the appearance of Allan Charles Barker at the Police Court this morning. Barker, aged 17, was charged with the theft of a rim and tyre and tube from John M. Collard. Mr. Allan Moody appeared for him and entered a plea of guilty. According to Chief-Detective Hammond, the car had been left on the roadside with the spare tyre screwed on at (he back. The youth had been out that way in a truck with his father and when the police searched his home at Onehunga last evening they found the missing tyre hidden beneath a tarpaulin on the truck. The father said lie knew nothing of the affair. Mr. Moody assured the court that it would be the boy’s last slip. He fully realised the seriousness of his position and counsel suggested that the case be adjourned to see how the boy behaved himself. In accordance with this suggestion, Mr. F. K. Hunt S.M. ordered an adjournment for six months. He was of the opinion that the youth should have a talk with Mr. W. J. Campbell, probation officer which, counsel agreed, was an excellent idea.
