OPERATIC MUSIC

PIANO STUDENTS MEET The fortnightly meeting of the Auckland Piano Students’ Association was held last evening in the foyer of the Lewis Lady Hall. The evening was devoted to operatic music, each selection being accompanied by tbe reading of the story of the opera. The items chosen were as follow:—March from "Tannhauser” (Wagner), played by Misses J. Parker and P. Graham and Messrs. Roy Collings and Ellis Vipond; Gavotte from “Mignon” (Thomas), Miss Doris Binns; sextette from “Lucia di Lammermoor" (Donezetti). Miss Mavis Hewson; duet, “The Spinning Song,” from “The Flying Dutchman” (Wagner), Misses Clare and Blackburn. The competition, a medley of operatic airs, resulting in much amusement, was tied for by Miss Blackburn and Miss J. North croft.
