NEARLY TOO LATE

BOAT PASSENGERS RUSHED WHEN TRAIN LATE LIMITED AGAIN DELAYED Several passengers travelling- from South by the Limited who had booked their berths on the Makura thought that they would miss the boat, as the train was over two hours late. As it was many of them had a rush to get their luggage aboard and to make final arrangements before they sailed. The- Limited did not reach Auckland until mid-day today. Engine trouble developed when the train was nearing Hihitahi and the engine eventually stopped altogether. Another engine was commandeered from a train which was standing at Waiouru and the Limited was taken on to Ohakune, where one of the big engines was obtained to bring her on to Auckland.
