ORPHANS FOREGATHER
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING DONATION TO ’QUAKE RELIEF The fortnightly meeting of the Auckland Orphans’ Club, held in the Scots’ Hall on Saturday evening, was presided over by the vice-president, Mr. C. M. Croft, Trade Commissioner for Canada. As a compliment to the chairman, the playing of “The Maple Leaf” followed the National Anthem. Part of the musical programme was provided by the boys’ band from the Jubilee Institute for the Blind. All three items were applauded enthusiastically. During the evening the chairman announced that the club had made a donation of ten guineas to the Earthquake Relief Fund. The official guests for the evening were;—The president, Mr. F. A. Hosking and the committee of the Pukekohe Orphans’ Club; the president, Mr. A. McDonald the secretary, Mr. G. V. Pearce, and committee of the Otahuhu Orphans’ Club. Mr. A. Grant, a member of the Hamilton Club, and Mr. X. E. Heath, vice-president of the Birkenhead-Northcote Orphans Club, were also welcomed to the meeting.
