TOURISTS FROM ORANGE
TOWN WHICH WAS NEARLY AUSTRALIA’S CAPITAL PASSING THROUGH AUCKLAND Orange, according to three of its citizens -who are through passengers on the Makura, is one of the most beautiful towns in Australia. Mr. H. H. Lee, a solicitor and spokesman for the party, says that Orange has a wonderful climate and very nearly became the capital city of the Commonwealth. Mr. C. Curran, a bowling champion, and Mr. B. C. Cameron are Mr. Lee’s companions. They are on their way to Suva, and on the return journey will spend a holiday in New Zealand. Mr. Lee is an old Rugby man and played for New South Wales against New Zealand in 1884. Talking of Orange and its claim to fame, Mr. Lee said that outside the town there are 259 self-contained orchards, which last year supplied 443,523 boxes of fruit to markets and consumers. Most of the orchards are situated on the slopes of Mount Canobolas and are a lovely sight in the springtime. The great charm of Orange is its wonderful climate—bracing in winter, with the zest of occasional snow, and cool and comforting in summer.
