MOTHER’S TERRIBLE DEED
DROWNED CHILDREN IN RIVER FLUNG FROM HIGH BANK (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 10.30 a.m. LONDON, Sunday. A terrible tragedy is reported from Banffshire. Mrs. Macdonald, the wife of a farm servant, went out. walking with her three children, aged four years, three years, and ten months, tespectively, the youngest being in a perambulator. When they reached a high bank overlooking a deep pool, the mother threw the children one by one into the river below, despite their screams, and then jumped in herself. A farmer on the opposite side of the river saw the tragedy, but was unable to intervene. Neighbours state that, before starting on her two and a-half miles’ walk, the mother told them her grim intention, but she was not believed.
