NEIGHBOUR FACES GRAVE CHARGE

A CHARGE of attempted xnnrder was preferred against Robert Francis Maddox, of Northcote, at the Magistrate s Court this morning'. ° A Dalmatian, Jerko Didovich, a neighbour of Maddox, was also charged with a grave offence against a woman. Both charges arose out of a sensational affair which occurred at Northcote on Friday night and an account of which appeared in The Sun on Saturday. It was alleged that Maddox pointed a loaded revolver at Didovich and pulled the trigger, but the charge failed to explode.

Didovich, a Dalmatian labourer, aged 39, was later charged with committing rape at Northcote on Friday, June 28. He was represented by Mr. Wallace, of Mr. E. Counsel said that there was no suggestion of Didovich keeping out of the way, an impression the magistrate might have gained front reports of the affair. “That is not the only reason,” replied the magistrate.
