GALE AT WANGANUI POWER LINES BROKEN DOWN (Special to THE SUNJ WANGANUI, Today. A strong gale which swept Wanganui early yesterday, lifted the roof of a house in Poison Street, Castlecliff, and hurled it through a network of electric-power lines. About three o’clock, Mr. and Mrs. Chalk and their two children were awakened by a terrifying noise, and found that the roof of their house had disappeared. They found shelted with a neighbour until morning, when they returned home to salvage their furniture. Many people had to walk to work as the tramway service was held up by the broken power lines. In all parts of th ecity and suburbs gardens and property were damaged by the gale.
