AT WAVERLEY & ASHBURTON Anolo’s Patea County Cup THERE was racing at Waverley and Ashburton today, both meetings being of minor importance. At Waverley Anolo won the Patea County Cup from Ivawhakina and Manly, while the Wairoa Handicap saw the favourite, Bonogne, beat Coolmint and Oration, neither of whom was greatly fancied. Bione captured the Waverley Trial and Pikimai was successful in the Hack Steeplechase. At Ashburton, Honeycombe, who was one of the disappointments at the Dunedin meeting recently, won the opening event, the Mayfield Handicap going to the exAuckland horse Town Bank. Lord Ranald, who was making his second appearance on the Turf, followed up his previous Saturday’s win by taking the Drosoore Steeplechase. AT WAVERLEY AT ASHBURTON

The Waverley Racing Club’s winter meeting was held today. The weather was stormy and the track heavy. The attendance was small. Bonogne jumped out well and he and Coolmint led all the way to the straight from Denier . nd Oration. Bonogne came away at ;he turn and won very easily by two lengths from Coolmint, who beat Oration by the same distance. Toapaiti and Denier were next.
