CUSTOMS RETURNS
HALF-YEAR’S FIGURES MOTOR SPIRIT DUTY HIGH The Customs returns for the halfyear ending yesterday show that the net beer returns were £60,296, and the returns from motor spirits were £169,438. Fire duties amounted to £21,577, and general Customs duties £1,084,665. The total returns were £1.275,680. The returns for the month of June were: Beer, £8,466; motor spirits, £25,213; fire duties, £1,947; Customs duties, £160,203. The shipping returns for the month of June show that 23 vessels arrived in Auckland, and 17 departed. During the month 727 passengers arrived at the port and 1,095 departed. For the same month last year the arrivals were 24 vessels (750 passengers) and departures, 13 vessels and 1,122 passengers.
