Neill declared that the £16,000 subsidy to ships carrying umber to Australia was of great imortance to British Columbia. He loped it would help to develop a market to make up those that Canada night lose in the United States under :he new tariff. Mr. Neill thought that if the tariff’s fleet proved to be as was now predicted, Canada should endeavour by tariffs and other preferences to inrease trade with Britain and other part* of the Empire, and let the United States realise that if she refused to uy from Canada it was natural that I'aaada would divert more of her purchases to the nations which trade with
