WAIHI MINING

AUCKLAND ASKED FOR SUPPORT

REVIVING THE INDUSTRY WAIHI, Friday. That the Auckland Chamber of Commerce should be urged to use its influence in encouraging mining interests m the Waihi district was the basis of a remit which the Waihi Chamber of Commerce decided to send to the Auckland chamber, at its meeting on Thursday. It was also considered that the Government should hold a, conference of geologists and mining engineers with a view of determining by what means and in what localities efforts should be made to resuscitate the mining industry. In moving that the remit should be forwarded. Mr. Beeche pointed out that millions of the money won from the mines locally had indirectly gone to the merchants of Auckland, and it would be a graceful act on the part of Auckland business men if they would assist the local Chamber of Commerce. The election of officers resulted: President, Mr. J. B. Beeche; vicepresident. Mr. S. H. Brown: council, Messrs. W. Ellerington, S. H. Brown, B. Walsh, E. A. McLeay, O. Bjerring, P. G. Brady: secretary, Mr. J. 'Whitehead ; treasurer, Mr. J. L. Dabinett.
