NO TOUR BY PRINCE
RUMOURED 1931 VISIT TO AUSTRALIA BROTHER MAY COME OUT (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 9 a.m. LONDON, Wednesday. It is officially stated at Y r ork House that no preparations are being made for a visit to Australia by the Prince of Wales in 1931. The Australian and New Zealand Press Association interviewed the Prince's secretary, Sir Godfrey Thomas, who said: “We do not know anything regarding th.e rumour from Sydney that the Prince of Wales has been asked to visit Australia in 1931. No invitation has been received. However, 1931 is long distant. It is surely premature.” The Australian and New Zealand Press Association asked: “Is a visit improbable?” The reply was: “No.” The Colonial Office authorities emphatically discount the reports of the rumoured visit. It admitted it was possible, although at present not arranged, that one of the younger Princes may visit Australia, but certainly not solely to perform the Sydney harbour bridge opening. It might possibly be arranged if the visit were extended to other important functions. In any case, it must include a tour of Australia and New Zealand similar to that made by the Duke and Duchess of York.
