hen the Hon. 11. Atmore, Minister of Education, visited Hamilton a fortnight ago he promised the Hamilton fhgh School Board that he would send the departmental architect to confer the board regarding the plans for the proposed new boys’ hostel. Advice was received today that the architect "as busy in the earthquake area but would visit Hamilton as soon as he w*s relieved down South. Twenty-eight permits for buildings valued at £4,474. were issued in the Hamilton Borough last month. The total value of buildings for which permits were issued in May, 1938, was *MIS. There is a possibility of the annual r* e w Zealand chess congress being held at Hamilton next Christmas. The club is expected to accept the . SK of organising the conference shortly. Orders for new filters which are to form part of the new waterworks improvement scheme authorised by the rfeent loan were given at the Borough meeting last evening, cost of six filters with iropwork, etc., will be £2,987 10s. Addijonal expenses incurred in installing ‘je filters will amount to £447 8-*=. faking the total cost £3,434 18s. Six nilers are already in operation.
