FARMERS’ TOURS
ANOTHER TRAIN FROM THE SOUTH BREAKING DOWN PREJUDICE On July 0 approximately 300 farmers from Southland will j reach Auckland to visit the Winter Show. .W HEN the trip is over 1,000 farmers | and their wives will have come from the South Island on the special trips arranged by the Railway Department. In addition to the tours of the North Island, farmers from Taranaki have sone to the South Island and the Southerners themselves have toured their own island on special trains. "We are performing a national service by running these special trains/* said Mr. A. W. Wellsted, railway business agent, this morning. “The results the tours have exceeded our expectations in every way. The farmers themselves have been immensely Pleased by what they have seen, and of them stated that the interchange of ideas will do a great deal of good.” ATTRACTING INTEREST Mr. Wellsted said that the suece *s of the trains has encouraged the North Island men to go South an d already inquiries have been tnade regarding a train next winter. Such tours are breaking down profacial prejudice and farmers from e &ch island and province are able to exactly what the other man is J°ing and the difficulties with which faced. Special arrangements are being Piacle to entertain the Southland men 'vhen they arrive on July 6. As the Allowing day will be a Sunday, motor round the city and suburbs have een scheduled for those who wish to them. the Monday there will be an official welcome at the Winter Show during the day several big manu--acturing plants in the city will be °Den for the inspection of the visitors. In the evening the Southerners will p the guests of the Winter Show ’-ommittee and tne Manufacturers’ Association at a supper. This morning the Otago farmers left ° r Rotorua by special train.
