STOLE FROM DOCTOR
SAVED FROM GAOL BY ILLHEALTH TWO YEARS’ PROBATION “On account of his health I shall not send him to gaol,” commented Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., when Sydney Walter Raven appeared before him this morning for sentence on three charges of theft. Raven, aged 39, was charged last Friday with stealing a gold pen and chain, of a total value of £l3, from Dr. A. Eisdall Moore, his employer, and a vacuum cleaner valued at £27 6s 6d from a city firm. DetectiveSergeant Kelly said that Raven had thieved from the doctor by whom he was employed and had obtained the cleaner on hire-purchase, disposing of it after paying the £4 deposit only. Mr. Cocker made a plea for his client, who was said to be suffering ill-health. It was mentioned that he was earning 25s a week with the doctor and that there was a maintenance order of £2 a week against him. Raven was admitted to probation for two years and ordered to pay back the £27 6s 6d as the probation officer directed.
