MAJESTIC
“A SOUTH SEA BUBBLE” “A South Sea Bubble,” one of the chief attractions at the Majestic Theatre, is a treasure island story “with a difference.” The story is now wholly concerned with the actual discovery of the treasure left on a South Sea island by an old-time pirate. The audience is interested, at first, in the scheming of a descendant of the old sea rover to interest people in a search for the hidden treasure—at a price, of course—and then in the toning down of the cliaarcteristics of the adventurers, and the subsequent development of the several love interests. All this gives touches of humour to the development of the drama and the steady progression of the tale to an unexpected conclusion. The cast includes Ivor Novello, Annette Benson, Benita Hume and S. J. Warmington. Though she long has been one of the most admired of screen players and won added followers by her work in “Mother Knows Best,” Louise Dresser gives the finest portrayal of her long and varied career in Fox Films “Not Quito Decent,” which is the Majestic’s second big feature. Based on the story, “The Grouch Bag,” Miss Dresser enacts the role of Marne Jarrow, former vaudeville performer who is half owner and chief entertainer in an underground “speakeasy.” By a strange twist of Fate the daughter whom she has not seen since childhood comes to the speakeasy with a man-about-town, and the mother saves her from him, at a cruel sacrifice. June Collyer plays the daughter and Paul Nicholson the villain. Mr. Whiteford Waugh’s orchestra plays “The Owl’s Lament” (Trinkaus), “Nightingale Scene” from G. F. Handel’s “II Fensieroso.” “Reverie D’Automne” (Golden), “Woodland Pictures” (Fletcher), “In a Bird Store,” a descriptive fantasia by Lake, “From Saturday Night to Monday Morning” (foxtrot), “By the Waters of Minnetonka” (Lieurance), “Festival at Bagdad,” from “Scheherazade.” “Don’t Say Good-bye,” and selections from “Sunny.” Ronald Colman’s latest screen triumph, “The Rescue,” based on a fine sea story from the pen of Joseph Conrad, is the new attraction at the Majestic Theatre next Friday.
