AIMS OF ROTARY

DISTRICT GOVERNOR S ADDRESS “MUCH TO BE DONE” “The aims of Rotary are high, and it is a good thing to have high ideals,” said Si, Alexander Roberts, district governor, speaking at the Rotary luncheon today. “But no matter how much we do, it is well to remember that much always remains to be done.” “Service Above Sell"' was the Rotary motto. In Toe II they gave a. very good definition ot' service,” he said. They held that service was the rent one paid for his room on earth. That was a detinition he would ask them to remember. There, are many in this country not so well off as we, said Sir Alexander, and there is much we can do to help them. In the course of his address Sir Alexander referred to the need for establishing better relationships between the man on the land and the man in the city. “As a man closely acquainted with the farming community, I must say that there is not yet complete understand ing between the man on the land and the man in the city. “You in Auckland.” said Sir Alexander, “live in the midst of a large and rich farming district and you Rotarians have a great opportunity to do good work. This promotion of a better spirit was one of the principles of Rotary and he thought it was a work that might well be taken up. He would advise them, however, in making any attempts in that direction to enlist the aid, first of all, of the local Agricultural and Pastoral Associations. A collection taken up for the Mayor’s Earthquake Fund resulted in JJ7 2 9s 6d being handed to the chairman. The ppresident. Mr. G. W. Hutchison said that this would in no way interfere with the support members might see fit to give to any of the various earthquake relief funds.
