HOSPITAL CHARGES

SUGGESTED INCREASE AT DARGAVILLE SELF-SUPPORT PROPOSAL (From Our Own Correspondent) DARGAVILLE, Sunday. Notice of motion was given by Mr. W. Collins at yesterday's meeting of the Kaipara Hospital Board to the effect that fees payable for treatment at tho two hospitals under the board’s control be raised from 9s a day, as at present, to 12s a day, and also that the fee for a major operation be increased from £ 1 Is to £ 3 3s. Mr. Collins considered that the scale of charges should be higher and that fees should bring a better revenue than at present. He did not think such an increase would hurt those unable to pay, and believed that those who can pay would be prepared to pay the higher rate. Mr. Collins also considered that as far as possible the institutions should be made self-sup-porting. His opinion was that those using the service should pay for it and that the institutions should not be such a burden on the ratepayers.
