CLOSING FRUIT SHOPS

NEW HOURS GAZETTED As the outcome of a request recently forwarded to the Minister of Labour and signed by a majority of fruiterers in the area, new closing hours for fruiterers’ shops in the Auckland district have been gazetted. The district affected includes Auckland City, the boroughs of Birkenhead, Devonport, Mount Albert, Mount Eden, Newmarket, Northcote, Onehunga and Takapuna, and the town districts of Ellerslie, Glen Eden, New Lynn and Henderson.

A stipulation is that, during the period from May 15 to October 15, inclusive, each year, the shops shall close at 8 p.m. from Monday to Thursday. No fixed closing hour is prescribed for the working dav immediately preceding a public holiday. The new hours will be enforced from next Monday.
