TRIUMPH FOR MATCHLIGHT YUHEN Linkman came round his _ * field three furlongs from home in the final heat on Saturday to beat the crack three-year-old Wrackler, comfortably at the finish, the son of Matchlight put up a striking performance. Both pacers handled the heavy track equally well, and there can be no excuse for Wrackler’s defeat, except that at the distance Linkman proved too good for him. When the breeding of the two geldings is taken into consideration, the result of the duel was a triumph fcr Matchlight, sire of the winner. Linkman was got from a Harold Dillon mare that proved practically useless in any department of the trotting game and was sold at one time for “two ton of chaff.” On the other hand Wrackler is a son of the American horse, Wrack, his dam being Trix Pointer, one of the best racing mares New Zealand has seen, and the dual Derby winner has high-class breeding on both sides. Linkman, who can stay as well as sprint, is a great advertisement for his sire, whose stock are showing splendid stamina, and are possessed of the striking feature that they do not tire over a journey, and the harder the fight the better they enjoy it.
