MAORI CONCERT
TOWN HALL I’EXT SATURDAY Those interested in the traditional music, games and ceremonies of the Maori race -will, no doubt, be gratified at the opportunity to be provided next Saturday of attending a performance to be given by the pupils, of St. Stephen’s and Queen Victoria Schools for Maori boys and girls. The entertainment, which is to be under the patronage of the Archbishop. Dr. Averill, the Mayor, Te Akarana Maori Association, and the leading musical societies of' Auckland, is for the very worthy object of providing a piano for the boys’ school, which is at present without an instrument, and scholarships for Maori girls. Apart from the very worthy nature of the concert, the merit of the performance alone should be sufficient to fill the Town Hall. The items will be given with traditional exactness, and each item will be preceded by a brief explanatory announcement giving the meaning and other interesting details of the various traditional songs, ceremonies, hakas, and dances given by the performers. 'The concert will be under the musical direction of Mr. Colin Muston, and orchestral accompaniments will be provided by a full orchestra.
