CHINESE MARKET
WORLD FELLOWSHIP FUNDS Organised to aid the World Fellowship Funds, a Chinese Market was opened by the Mayoress, Mrs. A. D. Campbell, in the Y.W.C.A. on Wednesday afternoon. The girls of the association had decorated the social hall very attractively with streamers, Chinese parasols, and coloured lights. The stalls represented pagodas. Among the many stalls containing a variety of goods and novelties was a stall with Chinese curios with explanations of their history and use. The association’s work for the community was eulogised by Mrs. Campbell in opening the market, and she urged that it be supported. Mrs. J. A. Bradstreet, president of the association, commended the fair and its objects. Stall-holders were as follow: Chinese curios, Miss Conway; fancy work, Mrs. Kenner and Mrs. O’Halloran, with senior club girls; cakes, Mrs. H. B. Webster and members of the house committee; aprons, Mrs. J. M. Murdoch and members of the cafeteria committee: plain work, Mrs. G. H. Williamson and members of holiday house committee; handkerchiefs, Mrs. Hankins and members of the mothers’ club; woollies, Mrs. ToddSmith and members of the World Fellowship Committee; yellow stall, Mrs. St. Clair Inglis and members of the library committee; produce, Mrs. T. Clark, Airs. D. G. Cole and members of membership and immigration committee; sweets, Aliss Dempsey and girl citizens: afternoon tea, Mrs. J. C. Dickinson and members of the hostel and physical culture committee; music stall. Airs. Ferguson and members of the Women's Progressive Club. Several excellent side-shows completed the market. In the evening the “Tres Bon” Club presented a programme of poi dances, plays and dramatic? items.
