FISHERMEN PROTEST
SEINE NET RESTRICTIONS OPPOSED MEETING TODAY Auckland fishermen will protest against the proposal to further restrict seine net fishing in the Hauraki Gulf, at a special meeting of the Auckland Seine Net and Line Fishermen's Association (Incorporated), to be hold this afternoon. Complaining that the agitation against seine netting is influenced Invested interests, and that their fields of operation are gradually being more and more limited, the fishermen point out that the restrictions are tending to reduce catches and force the use of better and larger boats. There is no truth in the assertion that seine netting is responsible for a sccarcity of fish, they say. Recent restrictions prevent the working of areas inside the Waiheke Island and from Gull Point to Rangitoto Island. Fishermen complain that their fields of operation are being gradually limited, and they hope to have the question discussed in Parliament.
