NEW REGENT

“INTERFERENCE” "Evelyn Brent is not only playing a "bad woman” on the screen for the first time in her career, but is also enjoying the novelty of appearing in her first talking picture role. The voice that brought the actress into prominence on the British stage a few years ago is now recorded for Paramount’s alltalking motion picture, “Interference.” which continues its successful season at the New Regent. Theatre. As the “other woman” in this audible picturisation of the Roland Per twee - Harold Bearden play, Miss Brent is depicted as a lady of many pasts and many lovers, as well as a blackmailer and thoroughly unscrupulous person. It is she who causes trouble in the otherwise peaceful lives of Clive Brook and Boris Kenyon in the story until her lover, William Powell, steps in and takes a hand. Miss Brent considers the role of Deborah Kane one of the finest she has ever had. It lias the same degree of intensity and drama as those in which she has scored her greatest successes. “The Showdown.” “The Last Command” and “The Brag Net” are among the pictures in which she has played strong acting parts. There is also an excellent supporting programme, including three talkie sketches. In one of these Elinor Glyn, the famous novelist, speaks on “What is It?” and in another Eddie Cantor, a delightful American comedian, is introduced to Auckland.
