At the Sydney Stadium this ev&ning ; Ern Connors, Sst 111 b, beat Tommy Griffiths, Sst 111 b. The referee stopped j the contest in the eighth round. Con- i nors led throughout, punishing j Griffiths severely. He sent him down j several times with heavy lefts and ’ rights to the jaw. Griffiths was unable to land convincing blows and was beaten at in-fight-ing. Eventually Griffiths was so badly punished that the referee stopped the fight and declared Connors the winner. BANTAM-WEIGHT TITLE NEGRO WINS CHAMPIONSHIP OF WORLD (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) NEW YORK, Tuesday. Alphonso Brown (llSlb), a negro boxer, earned the State Athletic Commission s title of world’s defending bantam-weight champion by decisively defeating Vidal Gregoria (1171 b) in a 15-round bout. Brown led all the way. He repeatedly sent his opponent to the floor and outboxed him throughout.
