STATE OF WICKETS

DEVONPORT PERTURBED MAINTENANCE PLANS The Devonport Cricket Club has reported to the Domain Board that much adverse criticism was levelled by A'isitors and club players last season at the state of the wickets on the domain. At one time, the club says, they were the finest in Auckland. Recently the club brought over an expert to advise it, and the Domain Board called for another. The result was that the board was convinced that something has to be done to remove the reproach that the wickets have gone back. It has been suggested that the cricket club should maintain its own wicket*;. Last night the club put up a scheme that, if the Domain Board would pay 25s a week and provide the necessary plant, the club would use the money it now pays the board to provide its own groundsman. The suggestion will be examined on Monday evening, at a conference with the club representatives.
